Jessica Watson took off this week to sail her way around the world. As amazing as that is, there is more to her story. She is 16 years old, doing it alone, and without stopping.
From Sydney to Sydney by wind power alone.
There have been a whole yacht club full of teenagers making this trek as of late. Zac Sunderland, Mike Perham, and pretty soon Zac Sunderland's younger sister (Abby Sunderland). There is also a Dutch chick trying to attempt the record, but I think there has been some government intervention... While each sailors trip has been a little different (different direction, type of boat, or paths taken), they will be sailing in the same challenges as Jesse Martin, who was one of the first sailors to make the journey at a younger age.
I have so much respect for this group of sailors. The bollards alone that it takes to attempt the trip is amazing. But really, I am always impressed with people (of any age) that one day can say,
"Tomorrow I'm going to get up and sail around the world."

CONGRATS to all who have made it and GREAT LUCK to those who will soon be sailing!
